The basis of the conference is Self-Determination Theory. The theory is one of the most acknowledged theories of motivation today, which is reflected in the interest in and growth of research on this theory both nationally and internationally. The main focus of the conference will be motivation in work organizations, in healthcare, and in education, and how Self-Determination Theory can be used to produce positive consequences in these domains.
Also this year we have the pleasure of having some of the worlds’ leading researchers on the theory attending the conference. Professor Edward L. Deci, one of the founders of the theory, will start off the conference by introducing the theory and with a particular focus on the place of Self-Determination Theory in organizational research. Professor Geoffrey C. Williams will start the session on health by talking about the use of Self-Determination Theory in health promotion work. Associate Professor Christopher P. Niemiec will start the session on education by giving us the state of the science within education.
A special focus would be how the research on Self-Determination Theory gives implications for practice and how the theory can be used to get optimal results in work, health, and education.
Conference news this year would be a session on education in which Christopher Niemiec would present international educational research for us, followed up with four research contributions from different Norwegian educational institutions.
In addition, researchers and PhD students will present recent research results. At this year’s conference we have 10 new studies based on Self-Determination Theory, tied to applications of the theory in work, health, and education.
We look forward to meeting you at the conference to share new knowledge about motivation in work and health!
