Why study Norwegian Folk Art?
The one-year programme in Norwegian Folk Art aims to provide students with a theoretical and practical introduction to Norwegian folk art. By “folk art”, we mean those art forms that have been developed in Norwegian rural areas up until the present day. Students may decide whether they want to work with wood, metal or textiles.
What you will learn
You will receive a thorough training in traditional crafts techniques and the use of traditional materials. You learn to design your own products and develop your abilities for creative work. Being able to combine techniques and aesthetic skills, will be emphasized in the programme. Doing hands-on work in the workshop constitutes for more than 50% of programme period.
Further study opportunities
The study programme may be combined with other higher education programmes within the cultural sphere or form a part of a BA degree. The programme may be used as an approved exchange semester from a student's studies in his or her home country. The programme gives access to an international network of folk musicians and folk artists and may open the way for further careers in this sphere.
