Jorun Rugkåsa is a Professor at the Centre for Care Research, University of South-Eastern Norway, and a Senior Researcher at the Health Services Research Unit, Akershus University Hospital. She is a sociologist with 20 years’ experience of health services research in Ireland, Northern Ireland, England and Norway. Her research focuses on • coercion in psychiatric services, • family caregiving in mental health • care pathways for older people and their family caregivers. She has published more than 60 peer reviewed articles and several books on these topics. Her post-graduate teaching has focused on qualitative and ethnographic methods; culture, ethnicity and socio-economic position and mental illness, and; culture and inclusive service response. She currently supervises 5 PhD candidates.
