Hognestad is full professor of education (Ph.D.), and Head of Center for Early Childhood Education Research, Development, and Innovation (SEBUTI). Besides this, she is an active researcher in the ECE field. Hognestad also teaches at USN/HUI at both bachelor's and master's level in ECE teacher education. In her PhD from NTNU, Hognestad has focused on pedagogical leadership and has been concerned with teacher leaders' knowledge management as practice in the ECE settings. Her master’s degree focus on the youngest children in kindergarten, the one-year-olds. Hognestad has long working experience from ECE settings both as director, teacher and, as a start, as an assistant.
