Roles

The university management, at all levels, has a responsibility for work on quality and shall contribute to the development of a quality culture among employees and students.

Responsibility cannot be delegated, but tasks can be delegated.

Responsibility

Rector

Has overall responsibility for the quality system. Provides overall guidance for portfolio development and educational quality work.

Dean

Has overall responsibility for ensuring that quality assurance and quality development of the faculties’ study programmes are carried out in accordance with requirements. Programme development and development of the programme portfolio represent a special area.

Vice-Rector/Divisional Director

Is responsible for the development and quality assurance of the administrative services for studies within his or her division. The administrative manager is responsible for ensuring the development of a yearly report on the work on quality in his/her division.

Faculty Director

Responsible for the administrative work on quality in the faculty. Responsible for quality assurance and development of study administrative services at the faculty, including ensuring that the faculty has the necessary competence to provide support to academic leaders.

Head of Department

Ensures that quality assurance and quality development of the department’s study programmes and courses are conducted according to the requirements.

Programme coordinator

Chairs the programme committee and reports to the responsible line manager. Is responsible for keeping track of and ensuring that the learning environment and academic and educational quality in the study programme in accordance with the requirements. Is responsible for ensuring that learning and assessment methods contribute to students achieving the learning outcomes.

Course supervisor

Is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and development of the course, so that learning activities and assessment methods help students achieve the learning outcomes for the course. Courses are represented in the work on quality in the study programme, via the programme committee.

Teacher/Professional

Develops and conducts teaching and learning activities that help the student achieve the learning outcomes.

Study administration

USN shall have a study administration at every level in the organisation, which contributes to the ongoing work on quality with consultancy, teaching, quality assurance and further development of work on quality. Furthermore, the study administration shall facilitate the evaluation of the quality system at the start of each administrative period.

The students

Each student is expected to actively participate in evaluating their courses and study programmes by means of surveys, meetings, etc. With this work on quality, the student provides ongoing feedback to teachers, course supervisors, programme coordinators and programme committees.

PhD candidates

The individual candidate is expected to participate actively in the evaluation of their course and PhD programme by means of surveys, meetings, etc. With this work on quality, the candidate provides ongoing feedback to the teacher, course supervisor, programme coordinator and programme committee. For work on quality closely related to studies, each PhD programme has a programme committee on which the candidates are represented.
