Why study Norwegian  language and culture?

Successful completion of this programme fulfills the Norwegian language requirement for studying in Norway or helps you if you need Norwegian language skills at work.

What you will learn

Norwegian language and culture is a two semester fulltime study programme which consists of four courses:

  • Introduction to Norwegian Language (15 ETCS), autumn semester.
  • Norwegian Language and Culture (15 ECTS) , autumn semester.
  • Norwegian Language and Culture (15 ECTS), spring semester.
  • Norwegian Social Studies (15 ECTS), spring semester.

There are online classes every day, and attendance is mandatory in order to complete the course and sit for the exam. Successful completion of the programme fullfils the Norwegian language requirement for studying in Norway or if need Norwegian at work.

Teaching and learning methods

There are online classes every day, and attendance is mandatory in order to complete the course and sit for the exam.

There will be a mix of learning activities and methods. There will be face to face online classes five days a week, but also flipped classroom. Self-study is expected before and after online classes.

All the written exams will take place on campus Bø. This means that you have to come to Bø to sit for the exam. However, it is possible to apply to sit for the exam externally. Guidelines / requirements for external examination can be found here (access for USN students only).

Admission requirements

You must meet the minimum requirement for entry into Norwegian universities or university colleges, with the exception of the requirement for Norwegian proficiency. No skills in Norwegian are required.

Only applicants who newly arrived in Norway and have been granted residency under chapter 4, section 28 of the Immigration Act, may apply. All Ukrainians arriving in Norway are expected to be granted the mentioned residency.
