Minnesota State University Mankato

The University was founded in 1868 and has around 15 000 students. Of these, around 800 are international students, from 90 different countries. The University can offer a wide range of programmes from bachelor to PhD-level. The town of Mankato is located in the state of Minnesota, and has around 52,000 inhabitants, and it has a lot to offer exchange students. Mankato is located around 1,5 hours from the large city of Minneapolis. In Minneapolis there is a Norwegian consulate and «Norway House». In Minneapolis/St. Paul the largest mall in the USA, the Mall of America, can also be found.

Admission requirements:

A minimum grade of 4 in English from secondary school in Norway, or the equivalent is required. Alternatively, an English language proficiency test.

Tuition fee:

Students from USN are exempted from paying tuition fees at MSU-Mankato.

Recognition of credits: Before travelling out, your courses will be pre-approved. If you complete and pass the courses, as agreed upon, the courses will be recognised as part of your degree at USN. 15 credits at MSU are recognised as 30 credits at USN.

Autumn: August – December

Spring: January – May


The most common thing is for students to live on campus. There are different types of accomodation that USN students can choose from. Application for housing can be done through their website.


All students need a visa to study in USA.


As an outgoing students, you need insurance that is valid for the entire stay.
