Integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems in the U-space

This talk presents the work that Carlos has done during his Ph.D. related to the Integration of UAS in the U-space. Regulatory and technical integration are needed. Firstly, He will speak about Risk Assessment in UAS. Secondly,  He will be speaking about an open-source "Unmanned Aerial Traffic Management System Architecture for U-space In-flight Services" developed by them. Besides, unexpected events or threats can happen when UAS are operating in the U-space. With this regard, he will be speaking about a "Threat Management Methodology for UAS operating in the U-space".

Carlos Capitán Fernández is a Senior Innovation Industrial Engineer working as a visitor researcher in the Advanced Cognitive Systems and Data Science (ACSAD) group at the University of South-Eastern Norway. He is a Ph.D. candidate in the field of Robotics, UTM, UAS, U-space, and risk analysis which has developed his research in the Group of Robotics, Vision, and Control at the University of Seville. Before that Carlos was working in different management positions in the Power Electronics Group at the University of Sevilla. To sum up, he is a professional with more than 10 years of experience in leading industrial sectors in the transformation towards a greener, automated, and digital world participating in more than 20 European and national R&D projects.

He has led the management of innovation projects in the fields of integration of renewable
energies; electric cars and integration of drones in urban airspace. He is used to dialogue with national and international stakeholders. On the other hand, since
2019, he have been continuously training in business analytics, business intelligence,
data science, and big data, applying his knowledge to exploit data in a way that
facilitates decision making in specific business use cases.
