Our hiring processes adhere to practices for appointment processes in state-run enterprises; this includes an open, transparent and merit-based recruitment process. The statutory qualification principle (Act relation to state employees § 3) applies to all employments in the public sector in Norway. The statutory qualification principle means that the best qualified applicant shall be employed in the vacant position. In assessing who is the best qualified applicant, emphasis is placed on education, experience and personal suitability for the position, along with the qualification requirements set out in the advertisement text. The University of South-Eastern Norway has obtained the European Commission’s “HR Excellence in Research” award, which gives public recognition to research institutions that have made progress in aligning their human resource policies with the principles set out in the Charter & Code.
