Global Health Security - Novel tools for detection of infectious disease that are crucial to protect our health

Compounding the challenges of threats to public health security from infectious diseases and the concerns about intentional dissemination of chemical or biological substances are the challenges of ensuring individual health security. Global health security depends on epidemiological studies that are important for the identification of new bacterial or viral diseases in humans and animals. This epidemiological information is required to minimize the danger and impact of acute public health events that endanger the collective health of populations living across geographical regions and international boundaries.

Our colleague Dr. Jörn Klein participates in a new network of experts and researchers working in statistics, epidemiology, diagnostics and population health. This committee is funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), which is Europe's longest-running intergovernmental framework for cooperation in science and technology.
