Democratic Resilience: Artivism, the Political Power of Music, and Scholars at Risk Student Advocacy

This panel explores the transformative role of artivism in human rights advocacy within higher education. In a context of increasing threats to diversity, academic freedom and democracy, we will examine USN initiatives working at the intersection of music, poetry and human rights, while aiming at fostering a synergy between art, activism and human rights education that may resist such threats. Through new forms of imagining and sensing advocacy, we will discuss how art can strengthen diversity, amplify marginalized voices, combat social exclusion, and advance human rights. 

The event includes a panel conversation between scholars, activists and students, a podcast recording, and musical performance with USN researchers, Scholars at Risk, and students from USN’s Master’s program in Human Rights and Multiculturalism, and the department of Visual and Performing Arts Education.
