Headstart: 8th-12th February

  • Ski-making: Practical and historical introduction to the ski-making tradition. Course in making your own wooden skis using simple tools. Thomas Aslaksby (Woodwork Workshop)

Monday 10th February

09.00 – 15.00 Craft Course
  • Tanning Fish Skins: Sidsel Sæterhaug (Olavskjellaren) Introductory course in tanning fish skins using bark and fat.
  • Wire sculpting and microwelding: Johannes Vemren Rygh (Metal Workshop). The course will be an introduction to microwelding steel to create a piece of jewellery.
  • Forging: Martine Johannesen (Forge) Basic course in forging techniques, simple exercises (hook, latch, clasp)
  • Ski-making: Thomas Aslaksby (Woodwork Workshop) (Started on Saturday 8 February)

Tuesday 11th February

  • 09.30-11.30 Workshop: Wool and spinning using a drop spindle with Marianne Telle.
  • 10.00-11.00  Lecture: Haltdalen Village of Dance – Knowledge-in-dancing in a Rural Community in Norway. Triangular interaction between dance, music and partnering with Siri Mæland from the Norwegian Centre for Folk Music and Folk Dance.

  • 17.00 Concert: Sing Along! (Grotten) In autumn 2019 Frode Nyvold released his album of songs from the Norwegian tradition, Soldater og redelig sjømenn. Together with Richard Burgess he will present the album, encouraging the audience to sing along to some of the songs.

  • 19.00 Concert: Ånon Egeland og Mikael Marin present Teasers from an exciting new album project (Vinjesalen)
  • 20.00 Concert: Robert Burns in Dialect (Vinjesalen) with Ingebjørg Lognvik Reinholt, Aasmund Nordstoga, Sarah-Jane Summers. Robert Burns (1759-1796) was a Scottish poet, viewed by the Scots as their national poet. During the Winter Festival, songs by Robert Burns, translated into West Telemark dialect by Peter Fjågesund, will be performed with their original traditional Scottish melodies.   • 19.00 Concert: BLÅMYRA with Richard Burgess (Årestoga) a one-man cabaret and homage to the people of Østfold County in the age of sailing ships. During the cabaret, we hear from the sailors themselves, through authentic local sailors’ songs, shanties and excerpts from letters and memoirs.
