Insurance

All students are obliged to have a valid insurance covering the duration of their stay – including travel to and from Norway. University College of Southeast Norway (USN) strongly emphasizes that it is the student’s own responsibility to make insurance arrangements for any accident, illness, injury, loss or damage to persons or property resulting from, or in any way connected with, the study period in Norway.
In addition to health insurance (see below), all students must have a valid travel insurance for the duration of their stay in Norway.

EU/EEA citizens

You must have a valid health insurance for the total duration of your stay in Norway. You must also have a valid travel insurance from your home country covering the same period.

The European Health Insurance Card entitles you to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare under the same conditions and at the same cost as Norwegian citizens. Please note that you are only covered in Norway – not while travelling to or from Norway, or on travels abroad. Dental care and medicines or treatment of illnesses contracted before arrival in Norway are not covered.

For further information about the card please contact the nearest insurance office in your home country. Find information on this website how you can order in your home country.

Important: You must in addition to the European Health Insurance Card hold a private medical insurance to register in Norway.

Non-EU/EEA citizens

You can become a member of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme (NNIS/Folketrygden) either automatically or voluntarily, depending on the duration of your stay in Norway. The membership entitles you to medically necessary, state-provided healthcare under the same conditions and at the same cost as Norwegian citizens.

Please note that you are only covered in Norway – not while travelling to or from Norway, or on travels abroad. We also would like to clarify that dental care is not covered in the NNIS , and medication or treatment of illnesses contracted before arrival in Norway is not covered.

ISEP exchange students: The coverage provided by ISEPs Health Insurance Scheme covers the medical insurance needs while in Norway.
