Discovering the Folk High School Spirit at Fircroft College

Poster for GNFR online seminar

What does the folk high school tradition look like in practice—and how can it shape the future of community learning? Join GNFR on October 28, from 17:00 to 18:30 CET, for an online seminar exploring these questions through the experience of Fircroft College in Birmingham.

Practical information

Three Fircroft teachers will share their perspectives. Angela Bates will present “Finding the Folk at Fircroft,” her contribution to Chapter 7 of the GNFR anthology Perspectives on the Global Folk High School Movement and People’s Future Lab.

Drawing on Chapter 15 of the same anthology, Zoe Mabbs and Holly Henderson will introduce Fircroft’s experience of community singing—and consider how singing can bring people together in a learning community.

The seminar offers a chance to explore how folk high school ideas are found, practised and renewed at Fircroft.
