The doctoral graduation ceremony is held every year, on the last Thursday in April. This is a celebration of the newly graduated doctors of the university, including honorary doctors, who receive their diplomas amid academic solemnity.
USN introduced the graduation ceremony in 2019. Doctoral graduation has roots in a university tradition that is several hundred years old and testifies that USN conducts education at the highest academic level.
Demonstrates interaction with society and working life
Doctoral candidates are invited to the graduation ceremony with the guests they wish to bring, such as close family. Internal and external supervisors and all employees at USN are also invited.
To mark that USN provides education at the highest academic level in close interaction with society and working life, we also invite representatives from the regional and municipal governance levels and the surrounding business community with which USN collaborates.
It’s wonderful of USN to reinstate this gradutation ceremony for those of us who have earned a doctorate. This is a day of celebration!

A day of celebration
At the graduation ceremony, the rectorate and the deans wear gowns. The gown is a garment with long traditions and symbolises reverence.
The ceremony is a mark, both internally and externally, that USN is part of an academic tradition.
Once the ceremony has been completed, the newly graduated doctors and their guests are invited to celebrate the occasion with good food and drink together with USN’s leadership and other invitees.
USN has been a great place to pursue a doctorate. I have had skilled supervisors and leaders who have greatly contributed to my completing in a good manner and on time
Newly conferred doctor
