Rauland is a village in the municipality of Vinje with beautiful scenery and rich traditions in folk art and folk music, midway between Oslo and Bergen. The Department of Norwegian Folk Culture at Rauland has national responsibility for higher education in traditional arts – folk music and folk art.
Rauland is known for having an excellent student community, in terms of both academics and leisure activities. Students actively participate in events at the school and in the village, through concerts/pub nights in Årestoga, exhibitions, the film club, dances and sports. Students also participate in festivals and seminars both at home and abroad, organised by the school or through the department’s network.
The Rauland student community has both national and international students, teachers who are experts in their fields and excellent guest lecturers.
