Eiri Elvestad is a professor of sociology with a specialization in media sociology. Since January 2023, she has been the vice dean for research at USN Business School. In the period 2019-2022, she was the head of department at the Department of Media and Communication at the University of Oslo. Previously, she worked at the Department of Sociology and Political Science at NTNU (where she has her doctoral degree in sociology from). In 2014-15, she was a visiting researcher at UC Berkeley in California. Elvestad has served as a member of several boards and has held a number of positions. Some examples: she is a board member of 'Jobbintro' (Horten), and has been an external representative on the board at the Department of Sociology and Political Science (NTNU), a member of the 'Kringkastingsrådet'/Broadcasting Council (The Norwegian public broadcaster, NRK) and leader of the Norwegian Media Research Association. Elvestad has written several books, book chapters and  scientific peer-reviewed articles in Norwegian and international journals. Her latest book is called Misunderstanding News Audiences. Seven Myths of the Social Media Era, (Routledge, 2018) and is co-authored with Angela Phillips at Goldsmiths University, London.
