Jonas Kristiansen Nøland

Jonas Kristiansen Nøland is currently a Full Professor of energy conversion with NTNU, Professor II with USN, and a senior member of the IEEE. At USN, he has contributed to the power system projects SysOpt (2021–2025) and CoordQ (2026–2028). Nøland holds a PhD in Engineering Physics (Science of Electricity) from Uppsala University - Angstrom Laboratory. Since 2022, he has been part of NTNU's Outstanding Academic Fellows Programme. In both 2023 and 2024, he was listed on Stanford University’s list of the world’s top two percent of researchers in the fields of electrical engineering and energy. In 2025, he was elected as a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences (NTVA) and of the European Commission’s Expert Group on Climate Change Policy (DG Clima CCEG). Dr. Nøland is a researcher within Nuclear Energy's role in a Renewable Energy System (NERES-project), a coordinator of NTNU's Clean Aviation research initiative, and a communication manager for the hydropower system project SysOpt. He is serving as an Associate Editor for the American scientific journals: IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ENERGY CONVERSION, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS, and IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON TRANSPORTATION ELECTRIFICATION. From 2022, he is also a board member of the IEEE Power and Energy Society Chapter of Norway.
