Mequanent hold a PhD in Civil and Structural engineering from University of Agder (specialization on Pavement materials and technology). He studied his Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering (Addis Ababa University, AAU, ETH), and started his carrier as assistant lecturer at Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAU). Then, he persue his master degree from South-west Jiaotong University (P.R. China) focus on Road and Railway Engineering (major in railway).
He taught road and railway engineering courses at bachelor and master levels. At USN, he is responsible for several topics in Road and Materials. He is also participating in various research projects and editorial activities.
