  • Transdisciplinary project initiatives

Competences

My aim is to contribute to collective initiatives for an ecologically oriented, ‘more than human’ sense of community wellbeing.

  • Art and design: I am an active and experienced artist working in public spaces (performance art, sculpture and installations), with projects in the USA, the UK and Norway. Since 2001, I have also been a professional lead designer and project manager for many outdoor play landscapes and playgrounds.
  • Play: I have specialist expertise in: environmentally friendly nature-based design, water play, landscape architecture, site surveys, universal play design, risk and benefit assessments, Norwegian and EU standards (NS EN1177), national standards (TEK17), nature conservation and local authority regulations for playground planning, the processing of planning applications and public participation in urban development. I have been the lead designer for over 50 completed public projects (2001–2026) in rural areas, towns and suburbs across the UK, Norway and Northern Ireland for private, government, local authority and commercial clients, including high-profile tourist destinations.
  • Interdisciplinary innovation: I also work, conduct research and teach in the field of interdisciplinary design and innovation, spanning the visual arts, health and social sciences, culture and community development.
  • Teaching: I have 30 years’ experience of teaching (at universities and in the community/continuing education, 1992–2026) in art and design, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship, drawing on both evidence-based research and practical perspectives from local communities and the business sector. I involve students in real-world projects through ‘learning by doing’ and utilise dynamic, systematic and strategic design and analytical methods. I teach creative, reflective and critical thinking processes and methods to develop skills in leadership, teamwork, self-determination and transferable career competencies. My experience in supervision and teaching spans master’s, bachelor’s, lifelong learning (continuing professional development) and foundational levels in Norway and internationally.
