Passkey Requirement

What does this mean?

A passkey is a modern and secure sign-in method that can replace traditional passwords. For example, you can use your fingerprint, facial recognition, or a PIN on a registered device to sign in.

Passkeys provide strong authentication and offer a more secure way of verifying your identity when signing in.

This service makes passkeys mandatory when signing in to relevant services at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN).

Why is this being introduced?

The purpose is to protect user accounts and data against unauthorized access. Passkeys provide better security than traditional passwords and reduce the risk of phishing, password theft, and account misuse.

Who can order this service?

This service is intended for employees who want an additional layer of security for their user account or who need to protect access to important systems and data.

What happens when the service is activated?

Once the service has been activated, a passkey will be required when signing in to services such as Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Feide, and other solutions that use Microsoft sign-in.

If you have not already registered a passkey, you will need to do so before you can sign in. After activation, a passkey will be mandatory and will no longer be an optional sign-in method.

How do I order the service?

To order the service, go to tilgang.usn.no and select Catalog. Then find Krav om passkey in the list of available services and submit your request.

Once your request has been processed and the service has been activated, the passkey requirement will automatically be applied to your user account.

How do I remove the passkey requirement?

If you no longer want a passkey to be required when signing in, you must cancel the Passkey Requirement service on tilgang.usn.no.

Simply deleting your registered passkeys is not sufficient. As long as the service remains active, a passkey will still be required if you register a new passkey at a later time.

Do you need help?
