Objectives

The objective of the system is to ensure that there are regular reviews of the quality and of measures for improvement in educational programmes and in the educational activities as a whole. The purpose of the system is to promote the sharing of experiences and best practices. Each evaluation can be tailored to local needs.

The University of South-Eastern Norway’s (USN) quality system for education provides a description of the institution’s strategic and systematic work on educational quality, and shall be fully implemented with managers and employees at every level in the organisation.

The quality system of education covers all education offered at the university.

The management shall ensure that the students play an active role in the work on quality development and quality assurance of education by means of student representation on the university’s decision-making bodies at all levels, student assessments of courses and study programmes, as well as other student surveys initiated by USN. The work on quality takes place both on the basis of the Ministry’s governance as owner of the institution, and via the university’s governance and management of educational activities.

Development of USN’s total study portfolio shall take place in line with the university’s ambition to provide education of a high international quality and in close cooperation with society and industry. The study portfolio shall support USN’s main profile, with education targeting specific professions, working life and society.

With its quality system, USN shall ensure a clear distribution of roles and responsibility within the ongoing work on quality, and with defined educational management at all levels. Work on quality shall be carried out systematically to ensure, develop and stimulate educational quality. The results and measures shall be documented, and best practice shall stimulate quality enhancement in all study offers.

The quality system shall contribute to:

  • Continuous learning and development
  • Involvement and ownership among all employees and students
  • Knowledge acquisition documentation and systematics
  • Detection of failing quality
  • Highlighting outstanding quality and best practice
  • Basis for strategic decisions on resource allocation and initiatives
  • Ensuring that study and research administrative support functions shall be appropriately organised so that they become efficient support systems for the primary tasks
