Apply for outbound exchange

Important information about exchange year 2023

You can now apply for an exchange for the autumn of 2023

We hope many students get to experience studying one or two semesters abroad!

Regarding the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic, there are a number of precautions that both you as a student and USN as an institution must take. For students planning an exchange stay V2022 or H2022, the following applies:

  • The situation at many partner institutions both in and outside Europe are unpredictable, both in terms of infection situation and education.
  • As of January 1, 2023, USN has no 100% guarantee that all teaching will go as normal at all exchange partners through the year 2023. Everyone who plans an exchange stay has a responsibility to stay informed about the situation in the country they plan to travel to, and about the situation at the host institution. As soon as you have applied and been admitted as a student at your host university, stay up to date through the information they send out. They have a responsibility to inform their exchange students.
  • Everyone who plans an exchange stay is responsible for housing, travel and any visas to the host country.
  • Everyone who plans an exchange stay abroad is responsible for ensuring adequate insurance during the period they are studying abroad. The insurance must last at least from departure until the return date to Norway.
  • Any additional financial burden as a result of the Covid19 pandemic, related to interrupted or canceled stays at the host institution is the student's own responsibility.
  • Many of our partners require that you are vaccinated before arrival, check the rules that apply to your place of study

We would like to emphasize that many parts of the world have been hit hard by the corona outbreak, and the situation is still changing. USN continuously assesses the situation and we relate to information from our partner universities and the Norwegian authorities. In addition, we make our own assessments of what will be possible to carry out of the exchange. Both in terms of travel, but not least in terms of completing studies and academic offers next semester. Stay up to date on Helsenorge's travel advice!

Requirements for applying

All students who have been admitted to a study program at USN should be able to apply for an exchange stay. The exchange can last for one or two semesters, and is approved as part of the degree you take at USN.

Basic admission requirements

  • You must have completed a minimum of 60 credits in higher education to be able to go on an exchange.
  • You can only travel abroad in the semester / year that is arranged for it in the study program. Which semester you can go abroad are stated in top of this page!

Language and grade requirements

  • Language requirements: As an exchange student, you avoid language requirements in most places. However, some of our partners still require documentation of 4 in English from High School.
  • Karakterkrav: USN stiller ingen absolutte karakterkrav til studenter som vil reise på utveksling. Noen av våre partnere stiller likevel karakterkrav til studenter for å kunne gi opptak. Dette varierer Grade requirements: USN does not set absolute grade requirements for students who want to travel abroad. However, some of our partners still set grade requirements for students to be able to provide admission. This varies from partner to partner.

For more information about language- and grade requirements, see the description under each partner institution.

Prerequisites

Please note that prior knowledge may be required for certain courses you wish to take as an exchange student. If you need to document such prior knowledge, you can refer to the course description on USN's website in English in the study and course plan overview.

How do I apply?
  1. Log in to SøknadsWeb. Select the recording "Exchange abroad".
  2. USN's exchange agreements are listed alphabetically. Many institutions are listed several times. Then you must make sure to choose the option for your faculty. The faculty names are shortened as follows:
    • USN School of Business (HH)
    • Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences (TNM)
    • Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (HS)
    • Faculty of Humanities, Sports and Educational Science (HIU)
    • USN (USN) - Select this if you do not get any faculty agreements.
  3. You can select up to three options, in order of priority.

If you do not find the agreement you want to apply for in SøknadsWeb, contact International Section.

NB: We share the application module with the Section for Admission, therefore not all the texts in SøknadsWeb will be equally relevant to you. As an exchange student, do not upload any documents in step 4!
