I am Associate Professor and a nurse/ midwife with more than 25 years of experience in clinical and academic nursing and midwifery. I have degrees in languages, pedagogy and nursing science from the University of Oslo, and certificates in nursing and midwifery from USN and Oslo Metropolitan University (Oslo Met). In 2015, I completed my PhD “Queer challenges in maternity care” at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Bergen. Prior to commencing on my PhD, I gained extensive experience in teaching nursing and midwifery at Oslo Met and USN. From 1998 – 2007, I worked as a clinical midwife/ Professional Development Midwife in the specialist health services (maternity clinics).

Competences

Areas of interest:
My main research interests involve increasing equity in midwifery care for marginalized and disadvantaged groups of women and their families. This includes developing knowledge about lesbian women’s maternity care experiences and different ways of developing parental identity in de-novo families. I am also interested in authoritative midwifery knowledge and midwifery models as a means to strengthen the art of midwifery.

Teaching/ subject areas:
Qualitative methods (phenomenological-hermeneutical/ thematic analysis/ metaethnography), philosophy of science/theoretical perspectives in midwifery.
