Here is a detailed user guide with screenshots for activating a user account, forgetting/changing a password, uploading/changing a profile picture and creating/changing a PIN code.

Activate account

When your user account is ready for activation, you will receive an email with a link to https://account.usn.no.

If you do not have a Norwegian national identity number, you should have received an e-mail with a unique activation link. Then follow the recipe you get in this.

If you have received an email with a link to https://account.usn.no, then select Activate account:

Click Log in using ID-porten.  Choose the method you usually use when you log in to ID-porten:

After you have logged in, you must go through an introduction to the university's ICT regulations:

After reviewing the ICT regulations, you must accept your duties and confirm that you are familiar with USNs privacy statement. Click Confirm to continue:

Now you need to create a password. Enter the desired password twice. The password must be at least 16 characters long, and you will receive an error message in red if it does not meet the requirements, or if there are different passwords in the two fields. Then click Save Password:

You will now receive a confirmation that your user account has been activated. It will be ready for use within approx. half an hour. Make a note of your username and email address.

When logging in for the first time, you must set up two-factor/MFA. You can find the recipe for this here.

 

Forgot password

Go to the self-service portal https://account.usn.no select Forgot password:

Everyone with a Norwegian social security number must log in to ID-porten to set a new password. If you do not have access to MinID/BankID, you can click on Cannot use ID-porten.

Foreign students and employees without a Norwegian social security number must click on Cannot use ID-porten, enter a username or email address (both private and USN email addresses work), and click on Send email link. Click on the link that will be sent to your private email address after a few minutes and follow the instructions to set a new password. NB! You must also have your mobile phone handy as the one-time code is only sent via SMS!

When you have logged in, either via the ID port or via the sent link and one-time code via SMS, you will arrive at the same password page as when you activated your user account:

Change password

If you want to change your password and haven't forgotten your old one, go to https://account.usn.no.

Select My account, and log in with Feide.

Select Change password. You now get the same screen for setting the password as when you activated your user account:

Upload or change image

If you want to upload/change a picture, go to https://account.usn.no.

Select My account, and log in with Feide.

Select Upload or change image:

Click on Choose image, and pick up the image you will use. The file size must be under 5MB.

When you see your photo in the self-service portal, click Upload.

Create or change PIN-code

If you want to create or change your PIN code, go to https://account.usn.no.

Select My account, and log in with Feide.
