Open research policy

USN needs a comprehensive approach towards open research policy. We need a policy that expresses the institutional ambitions and expectations for all elements that are covered by the concept of open research. The main objective of the policy is that knowledge, expertise and activities at USN should be more accessible and useful both within and outside academia.

Open Access logo

The development of a policy for open research takes place in the form of a project which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. The project group will share our experiences from the work on this page so that everyone can follow the progress towards a completed policy. We wish also that the policy text is formulated in collaboration with everyone at USN that wants to contribute.

Therefore, we encourage all employees to comment on the draft during the project period!

Why a policy for open research?

Open research is becoming the new normal. Authorities, research funders, and universities all over the world expect that research results will be made public and available. We also see an increasing trend of research processes becoming more open, and different participants/sectors outside academia being invited into the production of knowledge through increased user participation and public research.

How do we work?

The project group consists of representatives from USN's different academic groups. Representatives are appointed by the faculties. In addition, research support staff with expertise in the various areas of open research also participate. A separate sub-group with representatives from the Department for Research, Innovation and Internationalization manages the project.

The project group regularly holds physical meetings. In each meeting, one area of open research will be presented to the group in terms of a policy draft. The draft will then be presented, discussed and further elaborated. These sketches will also be published in order to enhance USN's communities and external stakeholders to comment and take part in the discussion.

During the project, we will set up both physical and digital solutions for interaction.
