Ajda, Kristine, Rémi, Michal and Beniamino are the first students to complete the new 30 ECTS exchange program in Sport and Kinesiology at USN. Last fall they all exchanged from different universities around Europe to study one semester at campus Bø.

Sport and Kinesiology is a one semester exchange program open to international exchange students. The program consists of two courses, Physical activity in a lifecourse perspective and Sports coaching, making up a total of 30 ECTS. The study program started up for the first time last fall and is held at campus Bø.

What it is like coming to Bø from abroad

Michal came all the way from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic to begin his semester at campus Bø in august last fall.

- My first experience and all subsequent ones are pretty much only positive. What certainly stands out, though, is the landscape around. Beautiful nature everywhere with gorgeous forests, lakes, rivers, and mountains in sight. The outdoors is clearly what makes it worth coming to Bø, Michal says.

Physical activity in a lifecourse perspective and Sports coaching are both optional courses in the ordinary bachelor’s degree program in sports (Idrett, trening og ledelse) at campus Bø. This has given the international students and the Norwegian students a good chance to interact with each other both academically and socially during the fall semester.

Campus Bø offers a good learning environment

Kristine, Remi and Ajda both agrees that working in small groups and have a close interaction with the lecturers are important for the learning environment.

- The classes are small, which lays the foundation for engaging and intimate classes. This also contributes to a close conversation between students and lecturers. - Every lecturer is available for explanation and help you if need. I really appreciate talk with them and share opinion about lessons’ topic. They make you feel comfortable with a great learning approach that motivate students to learn and develop their skills, Beniamino follows up.

Sport and Kinesiology gives valuable knowledge for future education and career

Through the exchange program in Sport and Kinesiology the students will learn about the physiological, psychological and social developments that people experience during different life stages, and how these changes must be taken into account when planning physical activities.

- The Sports coaching course gives me concrete tools to see the whole person behind the active and understand how this affects the active’s engagement in physical activity, Kristine tells. - What I liked most were the student-led exercise sessions. It’s great to try leading such sessions in a safe environment and gain feedback from the teachers afterwards, Michal says.
