What will you learn?

This course is for students studying traditional music, art, and dance, cultural history, anthropology, ethnomusicology, ethnochoreology, and other related fields. We will be introducing you to basic concepts connected to Norwegian traditional music, art (craft), and/or dance focusing on cultural history and regional variation.

You will get to choose from a programme of practical group workshops. These workshops will also be attended by our Norwegian full dergree students. The programme of practical workshops will vary from year to year.

  • Get some experience with and knowledge about music, art, and/or dance traditions in Norway; techniques, repertoire, genres, terminology.
  • Aquire some knowledge about traditional vocal and/or instrumental performance techniques and/or traditional craft techniques.
  • Get experience with practical skills in performing instrumental/vocal Norwegian folk music, dance, and/or traditional crafts.

Expenses

Personal costs may be incurred in connection with the short-term mobility component of the course. Available financial tools at the student’s home institution, particularly those in the Erasmus+ programme, can be used to partially finance the costs of travel, meals and accommodation associated with the course.

Admission requirements

Recommended prerequisite knowledge:

  • Students should be able to play an instrument, sing, dance and/or have some experience with handcrafting.
  • No prerequisite knowledge of Norwegian traditions is required, but familiarity with one or more of these areas is necessary for a successful experience.
