Lockdown-browser and Device Monitor in school examinations

During supervised exams, either Lockdown Browser or Device Monitor is generally used. Lockdown Browser ensures you work in a locked environment during the exam, while Device Monitor takes screenshots during the exam. The programmes must be downloaded and updated before the exam.

Lockdown Browser

For exams in FLOWlock or FLOWmulti, you must download and install Lockdown Browser before the exam.

Lockdown Browser is a programme that locks your PC/Mac during the exam. The browser must be launched to access the exam paper and ensures you work in a secure locked environment. You will not have access to files, internet, etc. during the exam. When the exam is submitted, Lockdown Browser will close.

How to download and install Lockdown Browser:

  1. Log in to Wiseflow
  2. In the top right corner, click on your name, then select "Edit profile"
  3. Choose the "System" tab, and then "Lockdown Browser"
  4. If you are unsure whether you have the latest version, click "Test browser"
  5. To install the latest browser, select "Download for Windows" or "Download for Mac"

If you have problems installing Lockdown Browser, contact IT support either by phone or visit IT student helpdesk.

Device Monitor

For supervised exams using FLOWassign, FLOWhandin and FLOWmulti without Lockdown Browser, Device Monitor is used.

Device Monitor takes screenshots throughout the exam. We recommend not having personal pictures as your background during the exam, as these will appear in the screenshots.

Device Monitor must be downloaded and started before the exam begins. If Device Monitor is not running, you will not gain access to the exam paper. Turning off Device Monitor during the exam will be investigated and treated as an attempt to cheat. If Device Monitor stops working during the exam, you must contact the invigilator immediately.

How to download and install Device Monitor:

  1. Log in to Wiseflow
  2. In the top right corner, click on your name, then select "Edit profile"
  3. Choose the "System" tab, then scroll down to "WISEflow Device Monitor"
  4. If you are unsure whether you have the latest version, click "Try Device Monitor"
  5. To install the latest version, select "Download for Windows" or "Download for Mac"

If you have problems installing Device Monitor, contact IT support either by phone or visit IT student helpdesk.

You can also find information on how to download Device Monitor under "Supporting material for participants" in the flow in WISEflow. See the file Device Monitor – user guide for students.
