Norway and Canada, as two high-north countries, face common challenges in harnessing their abundant renewable energy resources, including geothermal energy, while embracing the opportunities presented by digitalization and technological innovation for international collaboration.
The Norwegian-Canadian Network for Blended Research-Based Training and Know-How Transfer in Geothermal Energy, so-called “Nor-Can Geo-Exchange”, proposes a collaborative effort between Norway and Canada to advance research, training, and knowledge transfer in the field of geothermal energy.
Educational challenges and opportunities
Leveraging the expertise and resources of both nations, this initiative explores to address some key educational challenges and opportunities in geothermal energy sector through a strategic partnership among various stakeholders including universities, research centers, NGOs, and public enterprises.
The digitalization of higher education and emergence of digital twin technologies and virtual training platforms offer transformative potential for this purpose.
Goals
The primary objective is to establish and develop a joint world-class Norwegian-Canadian environment for virtual research-based training and blended know-how transfer in renewable energy with a main focus on geothermal and advancing higher energy education at Master and PhD levels.
This main goal encompasses several key secondary objectives as follows:
- Develop and internationalize specialized curriculum
- Enhance academic exchange
- Provide research opportunities
- Offer professional development
