Mobile radiography services; the implementation process, costs and impact on nursing home residents’ use of radiological services – a mixed methods study

A PhD-project bi Elin Kjelle.

Earlier research have shown these services to be in the best interest for the nursing home residents in addition to reduce costs per examination. Despite these benefits, mobile radiography services are not common neither in Norway nor internationally. In this PhD-project, implementation, costs and use of mobile radiography services will be assessed through mixed-methods research, guided by the MAST framework for assessment of telemedicine applications.

This project includes four parts:

  1. Systematic literature review on outcomes of mobile radiography services for residents and society.
  2. Qualitative exploration of barriers and facilitators for mobile radiography as experienced by managers.
  3. Statistical analysis of the use of all types of radiological services by nursing home residents in Norway.
  4. Cost-analysis of mobile radiography services in the Southeast health region of Norway.
