Simulation and development of competence

Illustration

At the Center for health and Technology, one of our research areas of expertise is simulation. Simulation is a well-known learning method and includes role playing, simulation mannequins and virtual reality (VR). Digitalization and learning in digital environments are affected by changes in the society, and development of competence is one of the core responsibilities of USN.

We explore questions such as:

  • How can students and professionals develop competence using simulation training?
  • What is the most appropriate way of facilitating simulation in a digital simulation setting?
  • What skills does students, faculty, and patients need to be able to use health and welfare technology?
  • How can students’ clinical rotation be developed in new and innovative ways to stimulate learning?
  • How can robots stimulate learning of language?
  • How to develop lifelong learning for task shifting in the healthcare services?

Co-creative processes and research methods in educational design are tools for sustainable and lifelong learning. We work with innovative solutions to meet the increasing demands for digital competence in healthcare and participation in clinical decision-making. Digital simulations may be an alternative to clinical rotation and a supplement for limited learning situations.
