Content
This course includes critical perspectives of the theoretical and empirical basis for the understanding of a variety of concepts for the person, health and society including, (1) the persons’ subjective experiences of health, health challenges and health services (person), (2) the biological, psychological, social, material, and existential factors determining health and (3) the societal prerequisites for health and welfare. This course explores the relationships between person, health and society. It focuses on how professional knowledge and culture create understandings of health and welfare and how these contribute to shaping research, practices, and services. How professionals have a significant, critical function in realizing equity and health within the conditions that shape the institutions of the welfare state and society will be illuminated.
Learning outcome
After completing the course, the candidate will have achieved the following competences:

- Can critically assess different theories, positions, debates and arguments concerning the understanding of and relationships between person, health and society.
- Can critically assess prerequisites for health and welfare.
Skills:
- has ability to contextualize the PhD project in theories of person, health and society.

- has an overview of theories and associations between person, health and society, including an understanding of their relevance to health-, social- and welfare research.
- can discuss multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives in health-, social- and welfare research.
