Content

Collaborative research is based on the principle that everyone affected by a research process should be heard and have influence on both the process and the results. Collaboration in research is often a requirement for funding and is usually justified by the fact that research gains higher quality and usefulness. Collaborative research provides everyone involved with good opportunities for learning and increases the likelihood that the research will be utilized in practice. At the same time, it is not obvious what collaborative research is, and what prerequisites must be met for learning, usefulness, and high research quality to become a reality. This PhD course provides an overview of the scientific understandings of collaborative research, and provides examples of different collaborative research designs and approaches.

Key topics in the course are power, ethics, and research quality. Methods used in collaborative research initiate social practices that involve everyone who participates. Specifically, who collaborates, on what, and what resource and other prerequisites they have, vary and are significant for how collaboration is conducted and research quality is realized. In this course, health, social, and welfare contexts will be particularly highlighted.

The course will emphasize collaboration in groups. The students will go into basis groups during the course.
