System Engineering Researchers Participate at CSER 2023 Conference at Stevens Institute of Technology.

The conference was a platform for researchers and industry experts from around the world to discuss the latest developments and research findings in the field of systems engineering.

The System Engineering Researchers at the University of South-Eastern Norway, participated in the 20th International Conference on Systems Engineering Research (CSER 2023) and SEANET 2023 workshop from March 15th to March 17th, 2023 at the Stevens Institute of Technology.

Our researchers, Professor Gerrit Muller, Associate Professor Satyanarayana (Satya) Kokkula, and Assistant Professor/PhD Research Fellow Haytham Ali, made significant contributions to the conference.

Gerrit Muller, who participated as an academic supervisor within the SEANET 2023 workshop for PhD researchers, also participated in the CSER 2023 panel to support our other researchers in their presentations. Muller shared his insights on the importance of starting with the problem rather than the solution, as well as the crucial role of human and leadership competence in systems engineering.

Satya Kokkula delivered a guest lecture on "Understanding the ‘Line of reasoning' and its role in research" at the School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology. He also talked with PhD students about the "Industrial Research School in Complex Systems" at the University of South-Eastern Norway, campus Kongsberg, and presented a paper titled “Literature Review and Research Design for Systems Integration: Case study in Defence Systems,” co-written by Gaute Tetlie and Gerrit Muller.

Haytham Ali participated in the SEANET 2023 WORKSHOP and presented a paper titled “Systems Thinking Design in Action - A Duplicated Novel Approach to Define Case Studies,” co-written by Gerrit Muller.

Through their participation in the conference, our researchers established networking connections with several researchers from around the world, facilitating future discussions and potential cooperation. This networking also includes an invitation to the researchers to our weekly research content discussion meetings organized by Haytham Ali.

The Norwegian Industrial Systems Engineering (NISE) Research Group congratulates Gerrit Muller, Satya Kokkula, and Haytham Ali on their successful participation in the CSER 2023 conference and SEANET 2023 workshop. Their contributions were valuable in advancing the field of systems engineering research and demonstrating the NISE’s commitment to academic excellence.
