In addition to the governmental imperative to include English taught courses in bachelor studies, it is obviously that nurses in the future should be able to communicate professionally with patients and colleagues in English.

Another aspect of this module is the importance of the main topic; Cross Cultural Nursing. Nurses in the future have to perform nursing in a way that cover for cultural awareness, cultural knowledge, cultural sensitivity and cultural competence. This module intends to encourage to such approach.

The course can be combined with a clinical practice period.

This module will be taught in English and in addition to serve as obligatory module in the ordinary BA-nursing curriculum, this module may also be as a part of the professional education programs for incoming - and outgoing exchange students. 

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing the course, the student will be able to 

Knowledge

  • Clarify global health challenges

  • Identify the impact of governmental systems on people’s health

  • Present theories and models in nursing encouraging cultural congruent nursing care

  • Identify how principles from Empowerment and Resilience may contribute to cultural congruent nursing care

  • Identify  the contributions of nurses to health promotion in an international perspective

Skills 

  • Communicate professional nursing issues in English

  • Search for health care information and global health challenges in public internet-sources

  • Search for health care information and global health challenges in publicly available Internet sources

  • Embrace awareness of cross-cultural issues in nursing

General Competence

  • Identify global professional issues in nursing

  • Appreciate an international approach to nursing

  • Include the ICN-guidelines in professional discussions
