The European Digital UniverCity or EDUC makes it possible for teachers and researchers to network and exchange across Europe, share resources and address a European audience.
With EDUC, your teaching and research is not limited to your university. By targeting innovative online and blended courses, EDUC creates many new opportunities for sharing and networking.
Increase the reach of your lectures, seminars or language courses, experience inter-European exchange in the lecture hall or in the lab, create a strong scientific community to tackle contemporary issues together.
Academic staff: EDUC Alliance – Access the European community
EDUC WIDE
- the research and innovation part of EDUC
- uses tools that will strengthen interdisciplinary collaborative research
- explores ways to escalate technology transfer in different areas, from ICT to social sciences and humanities
- works with a long-term plan that addresses central, global challenges
- ensures that citizens, especially young people, are engaged in science
- nurtures entrepreneurial mindsets among students and researchers

EDUC Alliance – Collaborate with the best
Virtual Mobility
- EDUC will develop virtual subjects/courses to be taught online from 2024
- The course offer is to be developed in collaboration between the academic community at the various EDUC-universities, and USN is part of this.
Internationalizaton of Study Programs
- EDUC develops its own measures for the internationalization of study programmes. Part of this will be: guest lectures, teaching in English, project collaboration between students across the institutions, international issues in the syllabus and so on.
- In the spring of 2023, a framework will be drawn up for the development of internationalization components in the programme.
- In the autumn of 2023, there will be an announcement for scientific employees, where you can apply to develop internationalization in your own study program through a scheme.
Double and Joint Degrees
- EDUC shall support the development of double and joint degrees within the alliance.
- Common frameworks and routines for double and joint degrees for EDUC will be developed.
Research based Education
- A separate subject in research-based method and theory of science will be developed for bachelor students, which will be taught partly online and partly with physical mobility, for students from all eight partner institutions from 2024.
- Temporary placement in research positions (research internships) include long internships (2-6 months) for Master's students and shorter discovery internships for Bachelor's students, following an online course on Initiation to Research.
- Blended summer research schools will be developed for PhD students, to take place in 2024-2026 at all eight partner universities.
Internship
- Joint arrangements must be developed for students across the alliance.
- Bachelor's and Master's students can travel abroad, and USN, with partner companies, will get students from the other universities.
Entrepreneurship courses
- A common framework for entrepreneurship education at PhD level is being worked on. More information will follow.
Staff Weeks
EDUC organizes thematic Staff Weeks aimed at different staff groups across our eight universities.
The objective is to create networks across the universities and learn from each other.
This involves physical mobility to partner institutions and is supported through Erasmus mobility grants for staff mobility.
Overview of upcoming Staff Weeks»: EDUC Staff Weeks (educalliance.eu)
The EDUC alliance was established in 2019, and USN came on board in 2022. We are still working to establish new infrastructure and innovative solutions, which will soon, and increasingly, enable USN employees to collaborate with and relocate easily between the EDUC alliance's eight universities.
By autumn 2024 we will have a lot in place, and it will mark a watershed for our participation in EDUC.

What and who is EDUC?
European Digital UniverCity (EDUC) is a European university alliance with eight members in seven countries. European university alliances are the EU's flagship for bringing the academic community in Europe closer together and solving major societal challenges.
In the alliance, we collaborate, among other things, on a common digital campus, digital study programs, flexible international opportunities for students and staff and skills development for young researchers and staff.
In addition to USN, EDUC consists of these universities:
- University of Potsdam, Germany
- University of Rennes, France
- University of Paris-Nanterre, France
- Masaryk University, Czech Republic
- University of Cagliari, Italy
- University Jaume I, Spain
- University of Pécs, Hungary
Together, the alliance has around 200,000 students and 31,000 employees.
Use the map to get to know the other institutions better.
EDUC is funded by Erasmus+ from 2022-2026.
What do we want with EDUC?
-
Provide students and staff with varied and flexible international opportunities
-
Increase the quality of our education through collaboration and innovation
-
The alliance collaboration gives USN a competitive advantage in Europe
