Do you want to feel more confident in international contexts? This course gives you the opportunity to learn how to communicate across cultures and understand the perspectives behind everyday interactions. The course is asynchronous and open to all students and staff throughout the year.

How well do you understand the way you communicate?

Students and staff at all EDUCs partner universities now have the opportunity to explore this through An Introduction to Intercultural Communication (courses.educalliance.eu).

This online course is designed to help you navigate communication across cultures, a skill that has become increasingly important in both academic and professional contexts.

  • Register by the end of 2026.

Flexible

The course is asynchronous, so you can start whenever it suits you (within the year) and work at your own pace

This is a practical and easily accessible way to build intercultural awareness alongside your studies or workflow.

The course is delivered in English (level B2) and is available on Moodle, EDUC’s digital platform for learning and teaching.

Why intercultural communication is important

Rebeca Schumacher. FotoWhether you are working on group projects, going on exchange, or preparing for an international career, the ability to communicate across cultures is a core competence.

"Misunderstandings are not always about language, but often about prejudices, context, and perspective. This course provides a starting point to develop these insights in a structured and engaging way," says course coordinator, Rebeca Schumacher

This EDUC course invites you to reflect on how culture shapes the way we think, speak, and interpret others. It goes beyond simple language ideas and instead focuses on understanding perspectives, expectations, and communication styles across different cultural contexts.

The course is developed and offered by USN as part of our active contribution to EDUC’s shared course portfolio. That means you are not only joining an international classroom, you are also engaging directly with USN’s academic expertise. Associate Professor Magne Dypedahl is the teacher.

This course reflects the wider ambition of EDUC: to give students access to shared, flexible learning across European universities, without the need to travel.

Samantha is studying a master’s degree in Human Rights and Multiculturalism at USN and has been a member of the EDUC Ambassador Programme since 2025.

What and who is EDUC?

European Digital UniverCity (EDUC) is a European university alliance with eight members in seven countries. European university alliances are the EU's flagship for bringing the academic community in Europe closer together and solving major societal challenges.

In the alliance, we collaborate, among other things, on a common digital campus, digital study programs, flexible international opportunities for students and staff and skills development for young researchers and staff.

In addition to USN, EDUC consists of these universities:

  • University of Potsdam, Germany
  • University of Rennes, France
  • University of Paris-Nanterre, France
  • Masaryk University, Czech Republic
  • University of Cagliari, Italy
  • University Jaume I, Spain
  • University of Pécs, Hungary

Together, the alliance has around 200,000 students and 31,000 employees.
