Grounds for rejection and appeal
An application response, meaning an offer or rejection of admission, is an individual administrative decision which can be appealed (see Act relating to procedure in cases concerning the public administration [Public Administration Act] chapter VI, concerning appeal against and reversal of administrative decisions). When you receive your application response, that does not include the grounds for the rejection or waitlisting of your application. Because of this, before you can appeal the decision, you need to request the grounds for rejection or waitlisting.
Request grounds for rejection or waitlisting
- A request must be sent via an online form.
- The deadline to send the request is three weeks from the date on which you received your application response
- You will receive a written explanation of how your application has been handled according to the current set of rules and regulations.
Appeal:
- If you still think your application should have been accepted after reading thegrounds behind the decision, you can start an appeal process. The deadline for starting the process is three weeks from the date on which you received the grounds for rejection or waitlisting.
- Your appeal letter must include:
- Your name and application number.
- Specifically, which part of the decision you want to appeal and which change you want.
- If you believe that the application has not been handled correctly according to current rules and regulations governing admission in Norway, you should specify where you believe errors have occured.
- The appeal letter must be sent to postmottak@usn.no or via regular mail to Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge, P.b. 4, 3199 Borre, Norway.
- The appeal will be handled in an appeals committee. The National Appeals Committee handles appeals for the Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. Programmes that are not a part of this service, including master programmes at USN, are handled by the USN Committee for Students' Affairs.
- The Committees' decision is final.
