Welcome to the Center for Security, Crisis Management, and Emergency Preparedness Leadership

The centre shall develop and share interdisciplinary, research-based knowledge that strengthens Norway’s overall preparedness by connecting people, disciplines and levels of society – from individual situational awareness to national system understanding.

Through collaboration across disciplines, sectors and administrative levels, SKB aims to enhance robustness, learning and innovation throughout the entire preparedness chain – from prevention and planning to response and recovery.

Meet our members

Carmen Gabriella Dorthee Louwerens Associate Professor Carmen G.D. Louwerens heads the Simulation Center at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Department of Nursing and Health Sciences. She is a trained nurse anesthetist with a master’s degree in economics and management, and has extensive experience with simulation as a student-activating learning method. Fabio Augusto de Alcantara Andrade Andrade is an Associate Professor in Robotics and Autonomous Systems at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) and a Research Scientist at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. He holds a PhD in Engineering Cybernetics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and has previous academic and technical experience from naval, aerospace, and engineering institutions in Brazil. His work focuses on teaching, supervising students, and conducting research in autonomous systems and robotics. Jørn Klein Jörn Klein is a Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, Department of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of South-Eastern Norway. He has a background in microbiology and infection prevention, with a particular focus on infection control, epidemic management, and knowledge dissemination. Marius R Johannesen Marius Rohde Johannessen is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at USN School of Business, Vestfold campus. He holds a PhD from the University of Agder and conducts research on the digitalization of the public sector, with a particular emphasis on political communication and how rhetoric shapes democracy and public discourse. Ragnhild Associate Professor Ragnhild Bassøe Gundersen at USN School of Business holds a PhD in Information Systems with a focus on digital innovation in times of crisis. She has specifically conducted research on the digitalization of contact tracing in Norway during the pandemic. Riana Steen Riana Steen is an Associate Professor at the USN School of Business and an Adjunct Associate Professor at BI Norwegian Business School. Steen holds an MSc in Planning and Analysis of Financial Systems and a PhD in Risk Management and Societal Safety. Her academic work centers on how people and organizations respond to adverse situations and unforeseen events.
