The research group in advanced practice nursing includes staff from five different master's programmes in advanced clinical nursing: anaesthesia, intensive care, surgery, general and oncology.
- Master's in Advanced Clinical Nursing
- Master's in Anaesthetic Nursing
- Master's in Intensive Nursing
- Master's in Surgical Nursing
- Master's in Oncology Nursing
The members of the research group wish to be involved in processes that improve or reveal challenges related to patient safety and quality in the services. By offering knowledge-based education, we also ensure the necessary competence that can contribute to sustainable primary and specialised healthcare services in the future.
How do we do research?
The research group’s core themes and research questions are related to the educational programs and the advanced nursing practice for which our students are being trained. Topics include advanced decision-making, professional autonomy and responsibility, as well as outcomes and experiences for patients and family members who receive healthcare services.
In addition, the group explores how advanced practice nursing can contribute to a sustainable healthcare system that ensures equitable services, patient safety, healthcare quality, and person-centred nursing at an overall level.

How do we conduct our research
Members of the research group use qualitative methods such as individual interviews and focus group interviews, as well as observations in their research. Members also use quantitative methods, such as questionnaire surveys and registry data studies, in addition to developing their own tools. Furthermore, literature studies (systematic and scoping reviews), action research, intervention studies, and evaluation studies are used as methods.
