Steen’s research examines organizational resilience with a focus on crisis and emergency management. This includes how decisions are made under pressure, how frontline staff adapt when established procedures fall short in critical situations, and how organizations learn and transform after disruption. Findings have been published in journals such as Safety Science and the Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management.
Steen is engaged in several international, collaborative projects, with a consistent emphasis on bridging research and practice.
Teaching is another cornerstone of the academic profile. Steen lectures across business administration, management control, and crisis management, and has designed and coordinated courses on business continuity, security management, and decision-making in crises. With over 7,000 hours of teaching and supervision experience, Steen is recognized for making theory practical, relevant, and closely connected to the real challenges organizations face.
