The course gives the student the competence to apply for the authorization to use diagnostic drugs in Norway based on Norwegian regulations (The Norwegian Medicines Agency). The course contains: general pharmacology, ocular pharmacology, clinical diagnostic methods, first aid related to the use of diagnostic drugs and ocular pathology.

This is clinical optometry 2 - Diagnostic drugs, examination methods and ocular pathology
The purpose of the education is to provide a good theoretical basis and good practical / clinical skills. Furthermore, education has the aim of giving an understanding of the importance of professional assessment and the safe use of ocular diagnostic drugs.
After completing and passing education, you can apply for a right to claim for diagnostic drugs based on the Regulations for the procurement and delivery of pharmaceuticals from pharmacies, and guidelines from the Norwegian Medicines Agency. A signed application with attachments is sent on the application form to the Norwegian optometrists Association, Specialist Approval Committee, Øvre Slottsgate 18/20, 0157 Oslo.
Target group for clinical optometry 2
This course is aimed at optometrists with optometric education at least three years college level or passed the approval rate for the use of diagnostic drugs 1.
Why take clinical optometry 2?
The right to claim for diagnostic medication allows you to independently use ocular diagnostic drugs in your own practice. The right to claim for diagnostic drugs is one of the prerequisites for admission to the master's degree in optometry and visual science.
You will learn
Teaching will be in the form of topical lectures, demonstrations of clinical methods, and practical learning of clinical diagnostic methods. There will also be individual study and course work. Students are responsible for completing assignments within the given deadlines, and will have to exercise independent time management for all tasks within the course.

Admission requirements
1. Applicants must be authorized optometrists or has a optometrist license in the Nordic countries, based on at least 3-year University College qualification in optometry. If content from the course "Accreditation course - use of diagnostic drugs 1" (GKD1) was not included in applicant’s bachelor degree, they need to complete this course in addition.
2. Foreign optometrists who applies for Norwegian authorization must submit a copy of their lisens to practise in Norway based on at least 3-year University College qualification in optometry. If content from the course "Accreditation course - use of diagnostic drugs 1" (GKD1) was not included in applicant’s bachelor degree, they need to complete this course in addition.
NOTE! Applicants who require GKD1 to qualify for admission to GKD2 will be offered to take GKD1 as a course at the same time as the GKD2. As a result, the two courses will run simultaneously and the workload will be accordingly.
If you want to apply for the course with Norwegian as the teaching language:
Applicants who have their bachelor deegree (or equivalent) from countries outside the Nordic countries, must prove that they meet the requirements in Norwegian and English proficiency.
