Four career development courses for researchers

Do you want to become better at communicating your research, explore new career paths, develop an employability mindset, or contribute to a more inclusive academia? EDUC offers four online courses for academic staff and PhD candidates at USN this autumn.

The four courses offered this autumn (2026) are all in English. They are delivered digitally at your own pace, with no fixed teaching times.

The offerings are part of USN's collaboration in the university alliance EDUC.

Contribute to a more inclusive academia

Female Empowerment in Academia (catalogue.educalliance.eu) addresses structural gender inequalities, gender-based violence and gender perspectives in research. The course provides insight into how you can contribute to a more equal and inclusive academic environment. Available until 15 November

Are you ready to tackle gender inequality and help shape the future? Our asynchronous, self-directed online course is tailored for academic staff and PhD candidates of all genders.

This interdisciplinary course addresses gender inequality in academia. Participants who are interested in better understanding gender relations in their work environment will gain insight into the main issues that hinder gender equality in academia and receive some practical tips on how to address them.

Strengthen your international career opportunities

International Employability Mindset helps you prepare for an international career. You develop skills that are useful across disciplines and national borders, and explore how you can use your expertise in new work contexts.

This is a comprehensive, 27-hour programme developed by 25 teachers from the EDUC alliance. It is designed to give PhD students key transferable skills that are essential for successful career transitions.

Whether you are leaving academia or entering the professional labour market, this course will give you the tools you need to succeed in today’s dynamic job landscape.

Explore career paths within and beyond academia

Career Diversification in Research (catalogue.educalliance.eu) helps you map your skills and explore how you can use them in different roles. You get practical tools to plan your next steps in working life. Available until 1 December

This course consists of two optional and two compulsory modules. Each module contains content in the form of video(s) and is followed by a short test.

  • Overview of career expansion (compulsory) 
  • Capacity assessment (compulsory) 
  • Capacity building: Soft skills to improve your career opportunities (optional)

Become more confident in research communication

Introduction to Science Communication (catalogue.educalliance.eu) gives you an introduction to how to communicate research clearly to both specialist communities and a wider audience. You will learn about different communication formats, social media and collaboration with the media.

You will gain insight into what science communication can be in practice. The online course consists of 6 modules and one bonus lecture:
