With EDUC E-Tandem, you can practise languages through informal conversations with students from other European universities. You meet online, talk about topics that interest you, and help each other become more confident in the language.

The EDUC alliance’s E-Tandem language programme gives all USN students a unique opportunity to develop language skills and intercultural competence. Through regular online meetings with one or two students from our partner universities in Germany, Spain, Hungary, Italy, France or the Czech Republic, participants can practise the language they want in pleasant, informal conversations on their own.

What do you get out of taking part?

  • You become more confident speaking the language. You practise with students who have the language as their mother tongue, or who speak it well.
  • You get to know other perspectives. You discuss, among other things, cultural stereotypes, social media, the environment and human rights.
  • You get your experience documented. After completing the programme, you receive a certificate of participation. This can strengthen applications for exchanges and other international study stays.

How does it work?

You use a total of 25 hours over the semester, including preparation, conversations and tasks.

  1. Arrange the meetings. Get in touch with your conversation partners, find times that suit you, and familiarise yourself with the tool you will use for the online meetings.
  2. Prepare yourself. Before each meeting, you go through articles, videos or other material about the topic you are going to discuss.
  3. Meet each other for conversation. You complete seven conversations lasting from 30 minutes to one hour each.
  4. Share your experiences. Along the way, you share content on the course platform and answer two questionnaires. In the end, you submit a written logbook and an oral presentation that you create together.

You will have access to seven topics during the semester. The topics help get the conversations going, but you can also talk about other things that interest you.

Who can take part?

The programme is open to all students at USN, regardless of what you study.

You must be at least at B1 level in the language(s) you want to practise. B1 is an intermediate language level, which means that you can keep a simple conversation going. The offer is therefore not suitable for you if you are a complete beginner. You do not need to speak perfectly, but you should be able to:

  • understand the main content of clear speech on familiar topics
  • take part in an unprepared conversation about, for example, studies, leisure and everyday life
  • talk about experiences and plans and briefly justify your opinions

The guidance and materials on the course platform are in English. In the conversations, you use the language or languages you have agreed to practise.

How to apply

The information you provide will be used to find conversation partners who suit you exactly.

  • Application deadline: 23 November 2026

The programme runs from 25 January to 20 June 2027.
