Information about IT services at USN, for you who are newly employed or who are employed and have got a new PC. And for those who have been employed for a while.

How do I create a user account?

We have a self-service portal where you can activate your user account, update your account information, change your password and create a new password if you have forgotten it.

At our self service user account website portal you may activate your account and/or change your password.

New students at USN will receive their temporary 11-digit number (SO-number) on e-mail before semester start.

How do I connect to the wireless network?

USN has a wireless network on all campuses. It's called Eduroam.

Which storage sollutions do you offer?

USN's IT-services offer both internal storage on USN's own servers, storage with USN's partners and cloud storage services. This guide tells you how to best manage and store different types of data.

Where can I find USN's intranet?

After activating a user account, you can log in to the intranet https://my.usn.no/. Here you will find all the internal information about all sections, guides, news, links to the most used IT-systems, etc. Information about IT-services can be found here.

Where can I access necessary software?

Apps USN (https://apps.usn.no/) is a central repository of software for the university. Some programs are licensed, and others can be used freely. Most programs are designed for Windows, but som are also available for Mac.

Apps.usn.no can be used by anyone with a valid user account.

Company Portal and Software Center is available on all USN computers, for all USN employees.

PC.usn.noRemote desktop gives you access to applications and IT-services from your private computer, or other devices such as Mac, Chromebook, tablets, etc. Read more about our remote desktop here.

Tablet. We also have a system for managing Apps on iPads in class sets. 

How do I print, copy, and scan something?

You will find printers on all campuses. You can use these with your student card.

You can print, copy and scan. You can send scanned documents to your own email.

How do I order PC and other IT-equipment?

Employees can, in agreement with their immediate manager, order IT-equipment via the USN ordering site. Standard PC's are computers with Microsoft Windows. Mac's can also be purchased, but has limited support. 

Which learning platform does USN use?

Canvas is our learning platform. It conatains information from the subject teacher about the course, assignments, messages, learning activities and much more.

It is recommended that you log in to Canvia via my.usn.no, but you can also use the following direct link:

What system do I use for online meetings and online lectures?

Microsoft Teams and Zoom are often used for online meetings.

How do I work and study from home?

Sometimes you need access to USN IT-resources when you are not on Campus. Students and emplyees travel, work or study from home, watch or attend lectures, access to files, etc. 

Here you will find an overview of the most common IT-services for off-campus use. 

How do I contact IT-support?

IT-support has business hours:

  • 08:00 – 15:30 (weekdays)

Go to this address https://pc.usn.no in your browser and you will see the following page:

 

You now have two choices:

1. Access via your browser

a.    Select “VMware Horizon HTML Access”
b.    Log in with your username and password (Do not include @usn.no)
c.    If 2-factor is activated, the Microsoft verification code is required
d.    Select “Ansatt-vdi”

e.    A window that acts as your USN employee PC will open

 

2. If you use the device a lot, it is recommended that you install the client

a.    Select “Install VMware Horizon Client”
b.    Select the client according to which device you are using. Employees with PC uses Windows
c.    Use the default options that appear, and then enter pc.usn.no when asked for a server.

 

How do I get access to Microsoft 365?

All students have free access to the Microsoft 365 cloud service. It includes full access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, 1 TB cloud storage in OneDrive and much more.

Access to IT resources from home or away from campus

Outside, from home and while travelling

Students and employees travel, work or study from home, attend lectures, access files, etc. Here we have an overview over the most common IT services you can use when staying away from campus, working from home, traveling, etc.  

Employees with PCs from USN basically have equal access to the IT services when working outside of the campus.  
If this does not work or errors occur, you can always use https://pc.usn.no/
