We conduct research on science education in practice, aiming to foster understanding and engagement among children, young people, and students in early childhood education, schools, and higher education.

Our work spans pedagogy, biology, chemistry, physics, technology, and geology – exploring how these core areas can be communicated in ways that foster curiosity and wonder, inquiry-based approaches, environmental awareness and sustainability, critical thinking, public health and life skills, democracy and citizenship, Sámi perspectives, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration.

The group consists of researchers with strong scientific and didactic expertise, and extensive experience from early childhood education, schools, and higher education. We are passionate about bridging theory and practice, developing knowledge that strengthens experience, learning, teaching, and professional practice in science-related topics at all educational levels.

Playful learning
  • Contact: Martina Tesikova, Ingunn Skalstad, Anne-Line Bjerknes
  • We research how children learn holistically through play. Our goal is to understand how play can create connections between academic knowledge, social skills, and creative expression. By studying the role of play in learning processes, we aim to develop insights that strengthen children’s curiosity, sense of mastery, and lifelong learning.
