Adverse events and irregularities may vary widely in nature and severity.
The Head of Department will:
- follow up on reports about adverse events and irregularities,
- follow relevant guidelines for processing adverse events and irregularities,
- implement whatever measures are necessary to process the event or irregularity,
- prevent such incidents from occurring again, and
- notify relevant authorities, such as the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision in the event of unexpected incidents of a medical nature, and the Norwegian Data Protection Authority if confidential information has been compromised.
Adverse medical events
Adverse medical events must be reported to the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision. The police must be notified in the event a death occurs.
Participants must be notified in the event of injury or complications. They must be provided with information about compensation.
The Norwegian Board of Health Supervision must be notified in the event of unexpected incidents of a medical nature.
The Department of Research, Innovation and Library must be informed by email of adverse events of a medical nature: forskningsetikk@usn.no
Research misconduct
USN shares an Integrity Committee (Redelighetsutvalget) with the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (HINN). The committee is responsible for processing and evaluating instances of suspected breaches of recognised research ethical standards at both USN and HINN.
If a breach of recognised research ethical norms is suspected, the suspected breach may be reported in accordance with the procedures for processing instances of suspected breaches of recognised research ethical norms.

Data protection and confidentiality
If you discover that data or services are unavailable, that confidential information has been compromised, or that information has been altered unexpectedly, you must report this via the “Speak Up” webpage.
