We use social science perspectives and methods to study changes in welfare institutions, governance, education and working life.

What do we research?

We study how actors (both individuals and groups) and institutional arrangements such as organisations, regulations and policies affect each other.

Innovation, organisation and governance, as well as the interaction between regulators and different types of organisations (commercial, not-for-profit, private and public), are key themes in the research group.

We collaborate with research environments inside and outside USN, and with actors outside the research sector and in the field of practice. In this way, both ongoing and future activities in the research group contribute to addressing USN's overall goal of being both labour market-oriented and solving important societal challenges.

How do we conduct research?

The members of the research group use a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methods, and are associated with various research projects. We meet regularly for academic exchanges and discussion of texts, and also organise seminars, often in collaboration with other research groups at the USN School of Business.

Research disciplines

The research group is interdisciplinary, with members from sociology, economics, history, political science and education.

The members conduct research on topics related to welfare and welfare institutions, organisations, governance regimes and regulation, networks and trust, social inequality and polarisation, education and work, innovation, migration and leadership.
