Fabio Augusto de Alcantara Andrade

Andrade is an Associate Professor in Robotics and Autonomous Systems at the University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) and a Research Scientist at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. He holds a PhD in Engineering Cybernetics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and has previous academic and technical experience from naval, aerospace, and engineering institutions in Brazil. His work focuses on teaching, supervising students, and conducting research in autonomous systems and robotics.

Research areas, interests and projects within security, crisis management and emergency preparedness

Andrade's academic interests focus on the use of autonomous systems, robotics, and drones to improve emergency preparedness and crisis response. This includes situational awareness, logistics in emergency operations, search and rescue, maritime and environmental monitoring, and technology-supported crisis management. He is also interested in predictive systems, such as weather and road condition forecasting, which support infrastructure resilience and safe operations during hazardous events.

He has participated in several research projects related to emergency preparedness and crisis management, including initiatives on situational awareness and logistics in emergency response with drones, technology-supported crisis management, and first-aid response coordination in multi-victim disasters. In addition, he supervises student research on search and rescue, post-disaster drone operations, and swarm robotics.
